Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer
Location: Houston, TX (On-site)
Industry: Oil & Gas - Measurement While Drilling (MWD) / Logging While Drilling (LWD) Tools
Employment Type: Full-Time

Company Overview:
A Houston-based technology company specializing in advanced downhole measurement and drilling data acquisition systems. The organization designs and manufactures high-reliability MWD/LWD tools and supporting surface systems for harsh drilling environments. The company is actively expanding its engineering team to support next-generation product development.

Position Summary

The Senior Electrical Engineer will be a key contributor within a multidisciplinary engineering group, responsible for the design, development, testing, and sustaining of high-temperature downhole electronics. This role requires strong technical expertise in power electronics, motor control, and embedded system hardware design, with a focus on reliability, manufacturability, and performance in extreme operational environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design and development of downhole electronic assemblies for MWD/LWD tools, including high-temperature and high-shock environments.

  • Develop power supply, motor control, telemetry, and sensor interface circuits from concept through production release.

  • Perform schematic design, component selection, circuit simulation, and PCB layout oversight using industry-standard tools.

  • Build and evaluate prototypes, performing detailed bench and environmental testing.

  • Create, execute, and document verification and qualification test plans to ensure product performance and durability.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, firmware, manufacturing, supply chain, and test engineering teams.

  • Support root-cause failure analysis, reliability improvements, and sustaining engineering for existing product lines.

  • Prepare engineering documentation including requirements, technical specifications, design reports, and test documentation.

  • Participate in design reviews, DFMEA sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • Minimum 7-10+ years of professional experience in electronic hardware design.

  • Demonstrated experience developing electronics for downhole oil & gas tools (MWD/LWD) or other high-temperature mission-critical environments.

  • Strong knowledge of power electronics, including DC/DC converters, motor drivers, and energy management circuits.

  • Proficiency with electronic design and simulation tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD, PSpice, PSIM, MATLAB).

  • Hands-on lab experience assembling and testing prototypes, using oscilloscopes, analyzers, etc.

  • Ability to interpret and apply environmental, reliability, and manufacturing constraints into designs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with embedded systems integration and digital signal interfaces.

  • Familiarity with sensor conditioning, telemetry systems, or high-temperature semiconductor technologies.

  • Experience coordinating with contract manufacturers and PCB fabricators.

  • Knowledge of reliability engineering and downhole qualification test methods (thermal cycle, shock/vibe, etc.).
