iO Associates have partnered with a global powerhouse in the energy sector, in the search for the business critical role of Senior Safety Improvement Manager at their site near Bridgwater.

The company are embarking on a very challenging project that will help Britain achieve it's net zero targets.

As the Senior Safety Improvement Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that construction site and associated developments maintain compliance and promotes best practice. This will cover a wide number of areas including the Nuclear site licence, environmental permits and licences, planning conditions and lease arrangements.

They need a driven individual to establish and implement a world class approach to Health & Wellbeing, Safety, Environment and Emergency Preparedness (EP) and Response.

It will up to you, to establish processes and standards and provide oversight, ensuring these are vigorously applied. You will be expected to drive improvements to safety processes, enabling the construction workforce to undertake activities safely. To perform in this role you will need to be comfortable on the construction site, talking to operatives and supervisors, as well as in the boardroom with senior managers.

Other activities include deputising for the Head of HSE&EP, driving operational experience feedback, managing department activities to meet agreed quality standards and managing the implementation of the principal contractor arrangements and standards. You will also manage a budget circa £600k a year. Overall you will be support the project to develop a strong safety culture that is consistent with recognised nuclear safety culture excellence.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Significant Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) experience including running an HSE group within a large project environment
  • Significant experience working on construction engineering environment
  • NEBOSH HSE Diploma or European equivalent
  • Chartered member of a recognised professional HSE organisation
  • Proven track record of achieving excellent safety results
  • Experience of large organisational, process plant and site operations
  • Practised in the development and implementation of behavioural management and leadership
  • Experience of emergency response requirements within a large project environment
  • Skilled at interfacing and operating in a large corporate environment
  • Ability to establish a vision and develop/implement strategy to attain it
  • Thorough knowledge of CDM Regulations
