iO Associates have partnered with a global defence company, who are recruiting for a System Safety Manager, whose UK subsidiary, based in Bristol, and are on a major growth trajectory as they begin to fully establish themselves in the UK.
The System Safety Manager will support the Head of Systems Engineering to deliver an innovative, technology led and efficient (value for money) engineering function that supports all Business Units & Programmes.
Responsibilities include:

  • Work with multiple project teams as a Safety SME ensuring the design and manufacture of products are fit for purpose and satisfy the safety aspects of product certification.
  • Liaise with customers, partners and suppliers to understand and agree safety related requirements during product definition and design.
  • Governance of Safety Management Plans and independent reviewer.
  • Responsible for ensuring safety management plans are followed.
  • Generation of Safety Audit Reports.
  • Supporting the production and maintenance all Safety Engineering policies, processes and supporting documentation.
  • Identification of Opportunities for Improvement (OFI) and recommending solutions for incorporation in to both the engineering processes and wider business processes.


Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience as a Safety Engineering Manager (or deputy) on large programmes for defence or aerospace
  • Experience of UK MOD Design Certification and Clearance
  • Generation of Safety Case Reports, ALARP statements, Hazard Logs and associated analysis for complex (software intensive) systems
  • Hazard Identification in conjunction with engineering teams
  • Engineering governance and control of configuration items (documentation and products through the release process)
  • Running a Safety Review Board
  • Knowledge and experience of Hazard Analysis, Functional Failure Analysis, FMECA/FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis
  • Current knowledge of UK & European safety legislation
  • Def Stan 00-55/00-56 / DO-178C / DO-330 / IEC 61508
