Contract Marine Engineer

£500-550 per day

iO Associates are on the lookout for a Naval Marine Engineer to work on a contract basis, for a client working on the Type 45 Class.

Your particular focus will be on identifying the issues and risks surrounding the Type 45 and understanding at what date the class cannot operate without significant capability shortfall.

Day to day, you will work closely with Technical and Cost Engineering teams, collaborating, and refreshing/revising upon original life studies.

Additional responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Identify and understand the issues and risks surrounding running the Type 45 class
  • Identify the risk and issues identified in previous studies and liaise with stakeholders to establish
  • Undertaking specific whole ship design studies to the required level of detail and contributing to the production of deliverables
  • Contributing to design reviews of specific designs as necessary

Key skills:

  • Extensive experience of naval maintenance
  • Detailed understanding of platform systems, with MEO/DMEO experience
  • Work to up-to-date environmental legislation
  • Knowledge and experience of naval ship design, primarily in the areas of ship systems design and development, covering propulsion, electrical and auxiliary systems (beneficial)
  • Former operator of a Type 45 (beneficial)

This contract is an initial 7-month duration, with a high likelihood of a 12-month extension for the right individual.

Additionally, the contract can be undertaken on a mainly remote working basis but requires 1 day a week attendance on-site in Bristol.
