SC Technical Architect (C3I Interoperability) – Contract (Outside IR35)
Rate: £550 – £650 Per day (Outside IR35)
Contract: Initial 3 months (extension possible)
Location: Portsmouth / South Coast (mostly remote, with 1-2 days on-site per month)
Clearance: Active SC required

A UK defence programme is seeking an SC-cleared Technical Architect to support the development of a next-gen C3I interoperability reference architecture. This role is ideal for an architect who enjoys defining standards, producing high-quality architecture artefacts, and supporting technical governance and customer assurance.
What you’ll be doing
- Helping define and evolve the reference architecture from early-stage foundations
- Creating/enforcing platform-wide standards for interoperability, security, deployment and operational observability
- Providing architecture input into engineering implementation teams
- Producing architecture design / systems requirements documentation to support reviews
- Feeding evidence-based insights into design reviews and technical assurance
- Supporting documentation required for customer approval and future deployment
What we’re looking for
- Strong Technical Architecture experience in complex distributed systems (regulated / mission-critical)
- Track record of taking early concepts into mature, operationally deployable architectures
- Secure design expertise (e.g., zero trust, identity, cross-domain, secure connectivity, data exchange controls)
- Comfort working in agile teams, influencing decisions and maintaining coherence
- Defence / NATO C3I interoperability awareness beneficial
- Tools/frameworks: Jira, Confluence, Visio; MoDAF beneficial
- Experience producing governance/assurance documentation beneficial
