Role Summary

Our Client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Communication & Network Architecture Expert to lead the design of the core communication infrastructure. This vital role is pivotal in defining how biological, mobile, and energy-constrained agents coordinate and operate seamlessly in real-world environments. As this is an entirely new and evolving field, your expertise will shape foundational systems that will enable living machines to communicate effectively – a truly groundbreaking opportunity to leave a lasting impact on next-generation robotic systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the entire communication framework for bio-inspired robotic swarms, from physical radio assumptions to network behaviour.
  • Design decentralised, resilient topologies suitable for highly dynamic, energy-limited, and mobile nodes.
  • Develop integrated ranging and communication systems that operate cohesively across radio, baseband, and messaging layers.
  • Translate complex physical, biological, and electronic constraints into innovative communication architectures.
  • Rapidly prototype, test, and refine solutions in collaboration with embedded systems, baseband, swarm intelligence, and biological teams.
  • Ensure the communication models support reliable, decentralised coordination and localisation amongst swarm members.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Over 8 years of professional experience in wireless communication, networking, or distributed systems, including work with radio and baseband systems.
  • Deep understanding of RF behaviour and how physical layer processes influence overall system performance.
  • Proven expertise in designing systems considering timing, synchronization, ranging, and energy constraints.
  • Ability to think beyond existing standards and develop innovative, custom communication models from first principles.
  • Experience working closely with electronics, with fluency in reasoning from physical layers to system architecture.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Background in biological systems or bio-inspired engineering is advantageous.
  • Experience in embedded systems development and rapid prototyping.
  • Knowledge of swarm intelligence or multi-agent systems.
  • Multidisciplinary collaboration experience, including biological, electronic, and software teams.
