Senior Data Engineer

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer (Contract) to support a major data transformation programme. You’ll work across a modern Azure data stack, using Matillion for orchestration and ELT, and Databricks for scalable compute, Delta Lake processing, and advanced transformations.

The Role

• Build and optimise ELT pipelines using Matillion and Databricks

• Develop and enhance cloud‑native data platforms across Azure

• Lead engineering workstreams within wider change initiatives

• Translate business requirements into robust, scalable data solutions

• Ensure data quality, governance, lineage, and security standards are upheld

• Produce clear documentation across pipelines, models, and processes

Essential Experience

• Strong SQL, Python, and PySpark

• Hands‑on expertise with Matillion and Databricks

• Azure Data Factory, ADLS, Delta Lake, and broader Azure ecosystem

• Proven leadership across data engineering or technical delivery

• Strong understanding of data governance and best practices

• Confident communicator able to simplify complex concepts

Desirable

• Insurance or financial services experience

• Exposure to additional cloud platforms or enterprise data tools

• Knowledge of data privacy and secure‑by‑design engineering
