iO Associates are partnered with a rapidly scaling data consultancy on a major programme to modernise enterprise Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing environments using Microsoft Fabric. This role sits at the heart of a transformation initiative moving legacy on-premises and cloud-based DW solutions into a unified, next-generation Fabric platform.

We're looking for a hands-on Data Engineer with deep experience across BI, SQL Server, and ETL development, who can also contribute to high-quality design specifications and modern data architecture decisions. If you enjoy solving complex data challenges while shaping the direction of a next-generation analytics ecosystem, this is an ideal contract.

The Role

Lead the migration and redevelopment of existing BI/DW assets into Microsoft Fabric.
Redesign data models, warehouses, and lakehouse structures to support analytics, reporting, and scalable downstream consumption.
Build and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines using SQL, Python, and Fabric Data Factory.
Develop tables, views, stored procedures, and functions within modernised Fabric-based environments.
Ensure data quality, lineage, governance, and performance best practices across both lakehouse and warehouse workloads.
Produce high-quality technical design specifications for data solutions.
Work collaboratively with solution architects, BI developers, and business stakeholders to deliver a smooth migration and tangible value.

Required Skills & Experience

Demonstrable experience within Data Warehousing in Business Intelligence environments (both on-premises and cloud).
Strong SQL Server skills including T-SQL, stored procedures, views, tables, and functions.
Proven ETL/ELT experience, ideally with Azure Data Factory.
Microsoft Fabric or Databricks experience is highly desirable.
Understanding of modern data architectures, including lakehouse principles.
Ability to write clear, maintainable technical and design specifications.
Investigative, curious mindset with a drive for continuous improvement and learning new tools, frameworks, and languages.
Someone who approaches challenges with humility and has the courage to drive positive change.
