iO Associates are partnered with a rapidly scaling data consultancy on a major programme to modernise enterprise Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing environments using Microsoft Fabric. This role sits at the heart of a transformation initiative moving legacy on-premises and cloud-based DW solutions into a unified, next-generation Fabric platform.

We're looking for a hands-on Data Engineer with deep experience across BI, SQL Server, and ETL development, who can also contribute to high-quality design specifications and modern data architecture decisions. If you enjoy solving complex data challenges while shaping the direction of a next-generation analytics ecosystem, this is an ideal contract.

The Role

  • Lead the migration and redevelopment of existing BI/DW assets into Microsoft Fabric.
  • Redesign data models, warehouses, and lakehouse structures to support analytics, reporting, and scalable downstream consumption.
  • Build and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines using SQL, Python, and Fabric Data Factory.
  • Develop tables, views, stored procedures, and functions within modernised Fabric-based environments.
  • Ensure data quality, lineage, governance, and performance best practices across both lakehouse and warehouse workloads.
  • Produce high-quality technical design specifications for data solutions.
  • Work collaboratively with solution architects, BI developers, and business stakeholders to deliver a smooth migration and tangible value.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrable experience within Data Warehousing in Business Intelligence environments (both on-premises and cloud).
  • Strong SQL Server skills including T-SQL, stored procedures, views, tables, and functions.
  • Proven ETL/ELT experience, ideally with Azure Data Factory.
  • Microsoft Fabric or Databricks experience is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of modern data architectures, including lakehouse principles.
  • Ability to write clear, maintainable technical and design specifications.
  • Investigative, curious mindset with a drive for continuous improvement and learning new tools, frameworks, and languages.
  • Someone who approaches challenges with humility and has the courage to drive positive change.
