About the Role

iO Associates is partnering with a leading UK aerospace and defence innovator seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to drive the creation of advanced mechanical systems. You'll work on technically challenging projects that push the boundaries of engineering, from concept through to production, while collaborating with a talented, dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using CAD, ensuring compliance with BS8888 standards and GD&T principles.

  • Support prototype creation and testing, feeding back insights to refine and improve designs.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, reliable, and optimised for performance.

  • Visit production sites to liaise with manufacturing teams, resolving design-related challenges.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including Manufacturing Statements of Work, standards, and drawings.

  • Participate in design reviews, technical assessments, and meetings with stakeholders.

  • Identify and resolve issues through Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and continuous improvement initiatives.


Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.

  • Proven CAD experience, ideally with PTC Creo or similar tools.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and materials.

  • Experience designing complex, tightly packaged mechanical systems.

  • Analytical mindset with exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Confident interpreting technical drawings and specifications.

  • Strong communicator capable of engaging with internal teams and external partners.

  • Able to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
