Our client, a high-tech company revolutionising precision laser processing for the semiconductor industry, is seeking an experienced Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer on a contract/freelance basis to join their team in the Dusseldorf region of Germany.
As an Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be instrumental in supporting the development and integration of advanced laser cutting systems. This is a remote contract position (with some site visits) that offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge laser technologies in a high-impact industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, model, and document complex opto-mechanical assemblies using Autodesk Inventor
- Integrate optical, mechanical, and thermal systems for laser cutting applications
- Perform tolerance analysis, material selection, and design for manufacture
- Collaborate with optical engineers to align mechanical designs with beam path and laser system requirements
- Support the build and testing of prototypes, including hands-on assembly and troubleshooting
- Generate detailed technical drawings and BOMs for manufacturing and suppliers
- Conduct mechanical simulations and stress/thermal analyses as required
- Work closely with suppliers and production partners to ensure quality and manufacturability of components
- Document design processes, test procedures, and technical reports
Requirements:
- Experience in opto-mechanical design or related mechanical engineering role
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor
- Experience in the semiconductor, space or similar industry would be an advantage
- Strong knowledge of opto-mechanical principles, laser systems, and GD&T
- Experience with simulation tools and PDM/PLM systems is advantageous (ideally Vault)
- Excellent communication skills in English; German proficiency is a plus
- Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
- Team-oriented with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality
