Our client is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join a forward-thinking, data-driven organisation where you'll play a key role in shaping strategy, driving innovation, and delivering high-quality data solutions.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives on hands-on technical leadership, enjoys problem-solving at scale, and has a passion for building reliable, cutting-edge data products in both cloud and on-prem environments.
What You'll Be Doing
- Providing technical leadership and setting the standard for coding, architecture, and performance.
- Designing, developing, and optimising robust data pipelines and infrastructure in Azure & Hadoop/HDFS
- Leading by example - writing high-quality code, guiding architectural decisions, and mentoring less experienced engineers.
- Owning the technical roadmap, ensuring alignment with business goals, and delivering cost-effective, scalable solutions.
- Championing best practices in automation, optimisation, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborating with stakeholders across teams to deliver impactful solutions.
About You:
You're a hands-on, technically strong Data Engineer with the ability to balance strategic thinking with delivery. You bring:
- Proven experience in data engineering at scale, including solution design, optimisation, and successful delivery.
- Strong coding skills in at least two languages: Python, PySpark, Java, Scala, or Spark.
- Hands-on expertise with Azure (ADF, Databricks, Data Lake, Delta Lake, or Lakehouse) and Big Data technologies (HDFS/Hadoop, Cloudera, etc).
- Advanced SQL skills and a solid background in ETL and data transformation.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to lead, mentor, and inspire others.
- Relevant certifications (Azure, Cloudera, FME) are a bonus.
- Experience with geospatial data tools (FME, QGIS, PostGIS) or data warehousing is a nice-to-have.
What's on Offer
- Salary up to £60,000
- 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays (with the option to purchase more)
- £300 annual lifestyle allowance
- Matched pension scheme (up to 10% after 3 years)
- Private health insurance
- Group income protection
- Cycle-to-work and gym schemes
- Coaching, mentoring, and strong career development opportunities
- A friendly, collaborative, and innovative culture that values bold ideas and continuous improvement
