Senior Service Designer | up to £700/day (Inside IR35) | 6-Month Contract | London - Hybrid
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Service Designer to lead and shape end-to-end public service design as part of a major government AI transformation programme. This is a unique opportunity to influence how AI can power the next generation of UK public services, with real impact at scale.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate service design work across agile, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Design services that are efficient, inclusive, accessible, and user-centred.
  • Work within the AI Customer Experience Frontier Programme to explore new design opportunities using emerging technologies.
  • Use research and data to inform service improvements and address user needs.
  • Facilitate co-design workshops, stakeholder engagement, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Champion accessibility, legal compliance, and sustainability in service design.
  • Mentor junior designers and promote best practice across government design communities.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Extensive experience designing services in complex digital environments.
  • Strong track record of working with user research data to drive decisions.
  • Ability to influence and negotiate design direction with senior stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in agile and collaborative, multidisciplinary environments.
  • Expertise in leading design workshops and inclusive co-design activities.
  • Commitment to accessible and equitable public service delivery.
  • Experience supporting and mentoring other designers.

Desirable:

  • Experience across the full service lifecycle (discovery to live).
  • Experience working with UK government departments, public sector, or non-profit organisations.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
