Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer - Aerospace (Yeovil, UK)
I'm working with a leading global engineering organisation who are seeking a Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer to join their Life Support Systems Engineering team. This role plays a critical part in developing technology that keeps aircrew safe at high altitudes and under high acceleration "G" forces.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working on the full system life cycle - from concept and design through to testing, certification, and in-service support - while collaborating with international teams and customers.
What you'll be doing
Taking ownership of the complete product life cycle of advanced life support systems
Leading system architecture definition, development and detailed design, working closely with cross-functional specialists in safety, electronics, testing and manufacturing
Reviewing customer requirements and ensuring these flow into system and equipment specifications
Defining compliance methods and coordinating verification and qualification activities
Acting as a technical point of contact for customers, ensuring alignment between their requirements and system performance
Coordinating with global engineering resources and external suppliers
Supporting test activities and providing in-service support for deployed systems
What we're looking for
Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering (or similar) with relevant experience
Background in mechanical systems design and development, ideally with exposure to pneumatic or thermodynamic systems
Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, particularly in interpreting test results
Experience with requirements management, validation and verification
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines and act as a customer-facing technical lead
Nice to have
Experience with life support systems, environmental control systems, or other pneumatic/mechanical products
Familiarity with system safety, reliability and testing processes
Knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and simulation tools
Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS
Ability to mentor junior engineers and lead project work streams
Why join?
Be part of a world-leading aerospace engineering organisation with a strong global footprint
Work on technology that directly impacts crew safety and mission performance
Market-leading training, career development, and opportunities for progression
Inclusive and innovative culture with a strong emphasis on collaboration
