We are seeking a highly skilled Infrastructure Engineer to join our secure technical operations team in Cheltenham. This is a hands-on position working across complex, mission-critical infrastructure supporting secure environments and advanced technology systems.

You will be responsible for maintaining, enhancing, and automating on-premises, virtualised, and cloud infrastructure - ensuring performance, resilience, and security across all environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and support secure infrastructure across physical, virtual, and cloud platforms.

  • Administer and optimise Windows Server and Linux systems.

  • Manage virtualisation environments (VMware ESXi, vCenter, vSphere, NSX, vSAN).

  • Configure and maintain networking and firewall technologies.

  • Implement and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform or Ansible.

  • Automate infrastructure builds and deployments using CI/CD pipelines.

  • Deploy and maintain containerised services (Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift).

  • Support cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) for scalable, secure infrastructure solutions.

  • Manage storage, backup, and monitoring solutions.

  • Maintain strict adherence to security, compliance, and governance frameworks.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Must hold active eDV clearance (applications without valid clearance cannot be considered).

  • Proven experience in infrastructure engineering within secure or enterprise-scale environments.

  • Strong background in virtualisation (VMware stack).

  • Expertise in Windows Server, Active Directory, and Group Policy management.

  • Solid experience with Linux administration (RHEL, CentOS, or Ubuntu).

  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals - routing, VLANs, VPNs, and firewalls.

  • Hands-on experience with automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, Bash, or Python).

  • Experience working with AWS or Azure.

  • Familiarity with containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).

  • Strong focus on security, resilience, and reliability.

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of Palo Alto, Cisco, or Fortinet networking solutions.

  • Experience in CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps).

  • Understanding of identity management, MFA, and secure authentication systems.

  • Certifications such as VMware VCP, AWS Solutions Architect, or Azure Administrator.

What We Offer

  • Salary: £60,000 - £75,000, dependent on experience and clearance level.

  • Hybrid working (Cheltenham office / remote balance).

  • Generous training and certification budget.

  • Pension, private healthcare, and bonus scheme.

  • Opportunity to work on technically complex, high-impact, and nationally significant systems.
