Senior Ruby Engineer | Ruby on Rails | Circa £75,000 | Hybrid

Company Info: You have a chance to be a part of a multi-award-winning business, specialising within luxury accommodation rentals across a variety of exotic locations. It's fair to say they have truly conquered this market after being voted the "Best Villa Rental Company" in the world. They were founded 21 years ago and have since seen a lot of technology over the last two decades, having a mixture of systems to serve their needs now. They recently took investment and are now on a mission to prepare for the future.


This is an incredible opportunity to be able to own a lot of the new systems they need. They are moving to Next.js hosted on Vercel, and Ruby on Rails with PostgreSQL hosted on GCP. The new systems are developed with CI/CD, as they aim to increase their deployment per day.

Their current team consists of two frontend engineers, 2 backend developers, and a database administrator, they also have a design team too. You will be playing a pivotal part, kick-starting the re-vamp.

Job Purpose: You will be building and maintaining from scratch, test-driven systems that power their client journey and business workflows. You'll work with stakeholders from across the business to continuously deliver change reliably. Using your experience, you'll seek to understand the complex requirements of the teams and their clients, and how to break them down into manageable tasks that will deliver the most impact through achievable actions.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain the systems that power their client journey and business workflows.
  • Build systems for payments handling.
  • Continuously improve their testing infrastructure and operations tools
  • Maintain existing systems and build in observability.
  • Release new features using feature flagging and A/B testing
  • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders to understand their needs and clients' needs.
  • Own features from concept all the way through to production

Skills:

  • Having a real passion for software engineering.
  • Experienced with Ruby on Rails or similar modern MVC web framework (Django, Laravel).
  • Be able to manage your workload effectively.
  • Good knowledge of testing tools.
  • Have worked in cross-functional teams.
  • The first thing you think is 'how do I test this' before you dive in.
  • You want to work in an environment with high levels of ownership.
  • You enjoy getting your work in front of the people that will use it and happy to listen to and implement feedback
  • Pivot around issues to get things shipped, negotiating, and managing expectations around deadlines.

Salary: Circa £75,000 per annum | Working Arrangement's: 3 days in the office a week (Central London)
