iO is delighted to bring you the next interview in our group, ‘The Defence Series’. This interview was with the Director of Military Digitisation, Thomas Copinger-Symes.

Major General Thomas Copinger-Symes is a British Army Officer who served as General Officer Commanding Force Troops Command until 2019, and currently serves as Director of Military Digitisation, Strategic Command.

In this interview, Business Manager Danny Watts spoke with Major General Thomas Copinger-Symes about his role in digitising the British Military and what that means for a soldier on the front line.

Some of the topics discussed included:

  • Tom’s journey in the military and how he came to be involved in this leading role within the digitisation of the military.
  • How Tom has found leading a digital program, coming from a non-digital background and the key lessons he has learnt along the way.
  • How the work at Defence Digital, and particularly the work of Sara Sharkey’s team with building MODCloud, has helped innovation move forward.
  • The end goal for digitising the military.

You can watch the full interview at the end.

As part of The Defence Series, we are looking to bring together individuals from all walks of life – whether previous service history, working within the MoD, working for a prime or someone that’s just interested in finding out more.

We will be sharing a range of insights and running events on a regular basis with topics from ‘The Battlefield to the Scrum-board’, ‘Innovation in Defence’, ‘Women in Defence’ and ‘The Future of SME’s’.
