DED Manufacturing Engineer (Laser Additive Manufacturing)
About the Role
Join a cutting-edge manufacturing environment where you’ll take full ownership of the Directed Energy Deposition (DED) process-from CAD preparation through to final inspection and delivery. This is a hands-on role focused on optimizing advanced laser additive manufacturing for high-performance components.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full DED workflow: programming, deposition, post-processing, and inspection
- Develop and optimize multi-axis CNC toolpaths and CAM programs
- Fine-tune process parameters to improve quality, consistency, and efficiency
- Implement thermal management and distortion control strategies
- Collaborate with machining teams on allowances, fixturing, and build strategies
- Oversee post-processing (heat treatment, stress relief, etc.) and inspection plans
- Troubleshoot defects such as porosity, cracking, and distortion
- Ensure compliance with safety standards for laser and metal powder handling
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials Engineering, or similar
- Hands-on experience with Laser Powder DED / LMD processes
- Strong knowledge of process optimization, thermal behavior, and manufacturing workflows
- Experience managing end-to-end industrial manufacturing processes
Bonus Skills
- Multi-axis CNC DED systems experience
- Background in aerospace or regulated industries
- Familiarity with CAM software (e.g., Mastercam)
- Experience with 3D scanning, inspection, or NDT
- Knowledge of Inconel, titanium, or stainless steel materials
