Commissioning Planner – Shipbuilding (m/f/d)

Emden, Germany | Hybrid | Fixed-term to December 2028

We’re supporting a leading German shipyard in hiring x2 Commissioning Planners to support complex refit and shipbuilding programmes.

This is a hands-on planning + coordination role focused on the test, trials, and system integration phase of vessel delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and oversee commissioning plans for complex ship systems (e.g. propulsion, power generation, utilities, automation)
  • Plan and define detailed commissioning sequences for onboard systems and associated trades
  • Coordinate closely with internal departments, shipyard divisions, suppliers, and external service providers
  • Organise and manage testing, trials, and acceptance activities, including:
    • Functional testing
    • Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)
    • Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
    • Dock trials
    • Sea trials
  • Monitor schedules, milestones, and overall progress of commissioning activities
  • Support risk assessments and ensure adherence to safety procedures throughout commissioning phases

Requirements

  • Technical qualification (Technician/Master level) or a degree in:
    • Shipbuilding / Naval Architecture
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Production Engineering
  • Proven experience in commissioning planning or execution within:
    • Shipbuilding
    • Mechanical or plant engineering
    • Energy sector
  • Strong understanding of maritime systems, such as:
    • Propulsion systems
    • Electrical power systems
    • HVAC
    • Ballast water systems
    • Fire protection systems
    • Communication systems
  • Experience using planning tools (e.g. MS Project)
  • Ideally familiar with shipyard processes and classification standards (e.g. DNV)
  • Fluent in German and English
  • Willingness to travel (approx. 25%)
