We are partnering with a leading consultancy to recruit a Data Architect to join their team on a permanent basis. This role is ideal for someone with experience working in complex Government, Defence, National Security or Critical National Infrastructure environments, and who has a strong track record of designing, assessing, and optimising enterprise-scale data architectures.

This position is hybrid, with 1 to 2 days per week in the London office and the remainder mostly remote.

Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be eligible for Security Clearance (SC). You must be a sole British passport holder and have lived in the UK for at least five years.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide architectural leadership and act as the SME for data strategy, design, and governance
  • Assess existing data architectures, identifying gaps, risks, and opportunities for improvement
  • Develop and maintain enterprise data models, standards, and frameworks
  • Guide technical teams across the full project lifecycle, from discovery to delivery
  • Partner with engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders to ensure solutions are performant, secure, and compliant
  • Establish and maintain data architecture artefacts within the enterprise architecture repository
  • Support data governance, data ethics, interoperability and cross-domain data sharing
  • Contribute to emerging technology research, including AI/ML and automation, to enhance future data capabilities

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience working as a Data Architect in complex or secure environments
  • Strong understanding of data architecture principles across relational, NoSQL and cloud-based ecosystems
  • Experience reviewing, evaluating, and improving existing data platforms
  • Familiarity with modern cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) and data modelling tools
  • Awareness of data analytics, visualisation, data standards, data ethics, and interoperability
  • Technical experience with modern data tooling, integration patterns, and scripting
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to work autonomously while supporting junior members of the delivery team
