Design Engineer

Design Engineer (permanent) – Bristol (on-site)

An established manufacturer is hiring a Design Engineer to join a Product Design function based in Bristol. The role supports new product development from concept through to production launch, taking ownership of the design, 3D modelling and 2D drafting of components and assemblies, and ensuring design data is accurately maintained.

You’ll work closely with prototype teams to create mock-ups and prove concepts, and partner with manufacturing and pre-production to ensure designs are practical and transition smoothly into build. You’ll also liaise with suppliers and internal stakeholders to communicate design intent, solve technical issues, and select optimal solutions balancing functionality, manufacturability and cost. The position involves managing priorities against project plans, contributing to (and occasionally leading) design reviews, and supporting wider project activity as required.

Key requirements:

• Experience working in a multi-disciplinary design/engineering environment
• Strong communication skills and an analytical, problem-solving mindset
• Ability to manage time and prioritise workloads to meet deadlines
• Competence producing manufacturing drawings to BS8888
• 2D/3D CAD experience (SolidWorks preferred)
• Good general IT skills (MS Office) and a strong health & safety focus

Desirable:

• Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as CNC routing, vacuum forming, extrusion and injection moulding
• Exposure to sustainability considerations in product design
• Experience with simulation tools
