The Opportunity

We are supporting a consultancy client that delivers technology solutions across the private sector, while also working closely with organisations in government, national security, and defence.

They are looking for a DevOps Engineer Consultant who can combine strong hands-on engineering capability with a client-facing, business-minded approach. This is not just a technical delivery role – they need someone who can engage confidently with clients, understand wider business drivers, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and help shape practical solutions that deliver real value.

The successful person will also be someone who can act as a positive influence within the engineering team: approachable, relatable, and able to support, mentor, and guide more junior DevOps engineers as they develop.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and improve secure, scalable cloud and platform solutions across client environments
• Develop and optimise CI/CD pipelines to improve software delivery speed, reliability, and quality
• Deliver Infrastructure as Code solutions to support repeatable, scalable deployments
• Work closely with clients to understand technical challenges, business goals, and delivery priorities
• Translate technical concepts into clear, practical language for non-technical and senior stakeholders
• Operate as a client-facing consultant, building credibility and trust across a range of customer environments
• Support the embedding of DevSecOps best practice across engineering teams and delivery programmes
• Help drive platform reliability, automation, observability, and continuous improvement
• Contribute to technical decision-making while keeping commercial and operational outcomes in mind
• Provide day-to-day support, guidance, and mentoring to junior DevOps and platform engineers
• Foster a collaborative team culture and help develop capability within the wider engineering function

Required Experience

• Strong commercial experience in a DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Cloud Engineering role
• Experience in a consultancy or customer-facing technical delivery environment
• Strong experience with AWS
• Good hands-on knowledge of Terraform and Infrastructure as Code practices
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions
• Strong experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Scripting and automation experience using tools such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell
• Good understanding of secure engineering principles and working in regulated or security-conscious environments
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences

Desirable Experience

• Active SC clearance
• Experience working in consultancy environments
• Exposure to DevSecOps tooling and security scanning within engineering pipelines
• Experience with observability and monitoring tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog, or cloud-native tooling
• Experience supporting or leading junior engineers within delivery teams
• Familiarity with Agile delivery environments and cross-functional teams
