Embedded Android Developer

On behalf of a client of mine based in Belgium, I’m looking for an experienced Embedded Android Developer to join their team on a freelance/consultant basis. Some key information about the opportunity is below:

Duration: 6 months initially
Location: West Belgium

Key Responsibilities

• Analyse product requirements and convert them into clear specifications and system architectures.
• Collaborate within agile scrum teams to develop both backend logic and sleek user interfaces.
• Enhance system robustness by optimising code and managing resources efficiently.
• Partner with testing teams to identify and resolve software issues.
• Maintain thorough documentation of development activities and modules.
• Assist in planning development tasks by accurately estimating time and effort required.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Proven expertise in embedded software and firmware development on Android.
• Extensive experience in developing Android applications and Android internal workings.
• Relevant experience with Kotlin and C++ programming.
• Familiarity with Linux-based embedded software development is advantageous.
• Practical knowledge of network communication protocols (TCP/UDP).
• Experience with multithreading and thread safety practices.
• Proficiency with version control systems such as Git or SVN.
• Ability to work independently under tight deadlines while collaborating effectively with teams.

Desirable Skills & Additional Experience

• Background in Python or low-level Android OS understanding.
• Experience with APK development and embedded Android internals.
• Knowledge of video/audio codecs, multimedia frameworks, and cameras.
• Understanding of security, DevOps principles, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.
