Field Robotics Engineer – Working Student/Intern

iO Associates are supporting an innovative organisation on a mission to transform modern agriculture by reducing reliance on herbicides. They design and deploy autonomous field‑robotics systems capable of identifying crops, detecting weeds using computer vision, and removing them mechanically, all without chemicals. The team brings together specialists in software, electronics, mechanical engineering, and product design, working closely with farmers to deliver real‑world impact.

Location: Garching
Contract Length: 6-9 Months
Employment Type: Working Student/Internship
Wotking Arrangement: Hybrid (Mostly remote with occasional visits to customer sites)
Rate: Up to €18 Per Hour
Start Date: 1st February 2026

Day to Day:

  • A fast‑moving startup environment with real ownership and influence

  • A varied role spanning software, hardware, and field deployment

  • Provide second‑level support for deployed robotic systems (primarily remote, with occasional on‑site visits)

  • Diagnose and resolve issues on field robots
  • Commission and calibrate new robotic units
  • Support the development of new subsystems and prototype features

Your Profile:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree in computer science, electrical engineering, robotics, mechatronics, or a related field
  • Confident using the Linux command line (e.g., Debian or Ubuntu)
  • Experience with ROS (ROS 1 or ROS 2)
  • Strong Python skills
  • Fluent in German and English
  • Full driving licence (additional licences for agricultural machinery are a bonus)
  • Electronics knowledge and hardware debugging experience

  • Familiarity with embedded systems and network configuration
  • Interest in agriculture or agricultural machinery
  • Willingness to travel within the EU and Switzerland for customer deployments

  • Flexibility for occasional work outside standard hours
