Fluid Systems Engineer

 

iO Associates are partnered with an innovative company operating at the forefront of the space launch sector, who are looking to appoint a Fluid Systems Engineer to join their growing engineering team.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to work on the design, development, integration and testing of complex fluid systems supporting both flight hardware and ground-based infrastructure. You will be involved throughout the full engineering lifecycle, from concept development and analysis through to testing, commissioning and operational support.

 

As a Fluid Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in the development of fluid and mechanical systems used across propulsion, test and support environments. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will contribute to the design, integration and validation of critical hardware, supporting ambitious space programmes from development through to operational deployment.

 

This position offers a strong blend of analysis, design and hands-on engineering, making it ideal for candidates who enjoy seeing hardware progress from concept to reality.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of fluid system hardware and sub-systems throughout the engineering lifecycle
  • Design and develop fluid and mechanical systems for high-performance engineering applications
  • Produce system architectures, requirements and technical specifications
  • Perform fluid, thermal and structural calculations to support design decisions
  • Design piping layouts, fluid routing and associated mechanical assemblies
  • Select and specify valves, regulators, sensors, pumps and other fluid-system components
  • Conduct modelling and simulation activities for compressible and incompressible flow systems
  • Support system integration, commissioning, qualification and testing activities
  • Analyse test data, troubleshoot issues and implement corrective actions
  • Work closely with manufacturing, suppliers and project teams to deliver hardware on schedule
  • Support procurement, supplier management and production activities
  • Drive continuous improvements relating to reliability, efficiency and operational performance
  • Balance technical requirements with cost, manufacturability and programme constraints

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline
  • Minimum 2 years experience within aerospace, propulsion, automotive, energy or another highly regulated engineering environment
  • Experience supporting the design, assembly, integration or testing of mechanical and fluid systems
  • Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Knowledge of fluid system components including valves, regulators, fittings, sensors and pressure equipment
  • Experience using CAD software for component and assembly design
  • Understanding of the complete engineering design lifecycle
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary engineering environment
  • Excellent communication skills in English

  • High-pressure gas systems
  • Ground support equipment (GSE)
  • Siemens NX or similar CAD platforms
