Exciting Career Opportunity: Head of Production (Contract) 12 months

Role Summary
Due to strategic expansion and a focus on operational optimisation, our Client is seeking a highly skilled Head of Production to lead key departments and oversee the launch of a new production site. This pivotal role is designed for a performance-driven leader who can steer teams, optimise processes, and ensure high standards in the space sector. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to teams working in machining, fibre composites, maintenance, and assembly, including managing budgets.
  • Establish and set up production operations at a new site, including redesigning the shop floor in compliance with quality standards.
  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor production workflows, exercising problem-solving expertise and autonomous decision-making.
  • Oversee machinery and systems, managing maintenance, calibration, and the evaluation and procurement of new technologies.
  • Manage warehouse and materials logistics, including raw materials, spare parts, hazardous substances, and inventory control.
  • Ensure effective utilisation and maintenance of production booking and control systems for accurate production recording.
  • Act as safety officer, championing 5S practices, creating operating procedures, and maintaining safety data sheets.
  • Coordinate with external partners and internal departments, managing external vendors and fostering seamless collaboration.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • A completed degree in mechanical or production engineering, or an equivalent professional qualification.
  • Minimum of five years’ leadership experience within a manufacturing or aerospace environment.
  • Proven ability to lead diverse teams, motivate staff, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong organisational skills with practical experience in planning and process optimisation.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Fluency in English, with good communication skills; additional languages are advantageous.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience managing production at a new or relocating site.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 standards and aerospace quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of inventory and warehouse management systems.
  • Prior involvement with safety management and the creation of operational documentation.
