Lead AIT Engineer
iO Associates are partnered with a European space technology company developing space‑grade subsystems for small satellites. The company is hiring a Lead AIT Engineer to take ownership of hands‑on AIT activities while leading and scaling the AIT team, processes, and laboratory operations as the organisation grows.
The Lead AIT Engineer will act as the focal point for all Assembly, Integration & Testing activities, combining hands‑on build, integration, and test work with team leadership and operational coordination. The role works closely with engineering, QA, product, procurement, and senior management to ensure reliable, repeatable delivery of space‑grade hardware.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, integrate, and test electrical and electromechanical space systems
- Define, implement, and enforce internal AIT processes and workflows
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of AIT and inventory documentation
- Collaborate with engineering teams to de‑risk AIT activities early in the product lifecycle
- Support optimisation and scaling of production and test capabilities
- Lead and coordinate a small, high‑performance AIT team
- Own the AIT master schedule and manage priorities across multiple campaigns
- Act as the primary interface between AIT, QA, product, and procurement
Requirements
- 6+ years experience in space AIT
- Strong background in electrical and electronic system manufacturing and testing
- Experience coordinating AIT activities across mechanical, electrical, electronics, and firmware domains
- Ability to lead small technical teams and enforce quality under schedule pressure
- Systems‑level mindset across integrated electromechanical products
- Experience with environmental testing (TVAC, vibration, EMC)
- Fluent English
