Mechanical Engineer – Rail Systems

iO Associates are supporting a long‑established engineering company that designs and manufactures custom-built rail vehicles for international industrial and infrastructure projects. With several new development programmes planned for the year ahead, they are looking to expand their Mechanical Engineering team with an experienced engineer who can contribute to concept development, detailed design, and hands-on engineering support throughout the build process.

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing mechanical concepts and turning them into detailed designs for structural components, housings, and assemblies
• Producing 3D models, technical drawings, and supporting documentation in modern CAD software
• Designing mechanical interfaces for electrical equipment, drivetrain components, cooling systems, and auxiliary modules
• Supporting the development and documentation of pneumatic and hydraulic systems where required
• Preparing bills of materials, assembly instructions, and production-ready documentation
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams including electrical engineering, production, and procurement
• Participating in design reviews and providing feedback on manufacturability, assembly feasibility, and installation requirements
• Supporting the workshop during assembly, installation, troubleshooting, and first‑article builds
• Ensuring adherence to industry regulations, internal standards, and quality guidelines throughout the design process

Your Profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a similar technical discipline
• Experience in mechanical design within transportation, heavy machinery, industrial equipment, or comparable sectors
• Strong 3D CAD experience (any modern system such as SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, CATIA, etc.)
• Understanding of structural design, mechanical assemblies, and fabrication processes
• Knowledge of pneumatic and/or hydraulic systems is beneficial
• Ability to produce production-ready drawings, documentation, and interface definitions
• Comfortable working alongside production teams and supporting commissioning activities
• English and German fluency required
