Exciting Opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer with Propulsion System Experience
The Mechanical Engineer will play a pivotal role in assembling, integrating, and testing propulsion hardware, including thrusters and associated fluidic and structural components. The position supports critical activities such as vacuum chamber testing, thermal cycling, and functional validation, helping to ensure our client’s hardware meets the highest standards of performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and integrate propulsion system hardware, including thrusters, fluidic, and structural components.
- Support activities related to Assembly, Integration & Test (AIT), including performing vacuum chamber tests, thermal cycling, and functional validation.
- Develop detailed procedures and work instructions for mechanical assembly of flight hardware, ensuring clarity and repeatability.
- Collaborate with design and systems teams to optimise buildability and manufacturability of propulsion components.
- Conduct mechanical testing and validation, such as leak testing, pressure testing, and structural assessments.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues via root cause analysis and hands-on problem-solving.
- Assist in environmental testing to verify hardware withstands vacuum, vibration, and thermal extremes.
- Support the setup and maintenance of test rigs, fixtures, and mechanical ground support equipment.
- Ensure all procedures and activities conform to industry standards (such as ECSS / ESA) and internal quality controls.
- liaise with internal teams and external suppliers to maintain component quality and mechanical integrity throughout the project lifecycle.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience working with complex mechanical assemblies, ideally within aerospace, automotive, or high-spec industries.
- Hands-on experience in assembly, testing, or manufacturing environments related to mechanical hardware.
- Knowledge of pressure, fluid, and vacuum systems.
- Practical experience with mechanical testing methods such as leak and vibration testing.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities, with an active, problem-solving mindset.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and work from detailed procedures.
