Payload Electronics Engineer

We are supporting a space technology team in Luxembourg developing a spacecraft payload system for an active programme. The role focuses on payload electronics and PCB design, supporting refinement of an existing electronics architecture as well as new development work within a small, experienced engineering team. It is a hands‑on position for someone who enjoys end‑to‑end ownership of hardware and working closely with electronics through design, integration, and testing.

Location: Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Type: Full-time, on-site
Start Date: Immediate
Salary: €65,000 – €80,000 per annum, dependent on experience

Please note: Sponsorship is not available for this role. Candidates must be an EU citizen or already hold a valid EU Blue Card or equivalent right to work in Luxembourg.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own PCB and electronics design for spacecraft payload systems from concept through layout release
  • Support and refine payload electronics architecture following recent design changes
  • Design PCBs in line with ECSS standards and/or IPC Class 3 requirements
  • Define stack‑ups, controlled impedance routing, and manufacturability constraints
  • Apply SI / PI considerations where relevant (impedance, return paths, crosstalk, PDN behaviour)
  • Select and qualify components, including COTS and Hi‑Rel EEE parts where appropriate
  • Prepare and support electrical test campaigns (functional, performance, EMC/ESD)
  • Troubleshoot issues during bring‑up, testing, and integration
  • Contribute to design reviews, technical risk mitigation, and delivery planning
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, thermal, systems, and embedded software teams

Required Experience

  • Degree in Electronics Engineering or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years experience in electronics and PCB design
  • Previous experience with space, satellite, or payload electronics is essential (Aerospace or defence backgrounds will also be considered)
  • Strong experience with professional PCB design tools (e.g. Altium Designer)
  • Solid understanding of impedance‑controlled PCB layout and stack‑up planning
  • Experience with differential pair routing and return‑path management
  • Knowledge of EMC‑aware layout and crosstalk mitigation techniques
  • Hands‑on approach to bring‑up, debugging, and testing

In addition to a competitive base salary, the package includes meal vouchers, private healthcare coverage, and equity/stock participation. The role also offers the opportunity to work in a small, highly technical engineering team with direct ownership of payload electronics on a space programme progressing toward launch.

If you’re excited by hands‑on payload electronics work and want to see your designs progress toward launch, we’d love to hear from you. Apply directly or reach out for a confidential conversation about the role.
