We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Proposal Engineer to join our client, a global leader in developing innovative technological solutions within the defence and energy industries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse technical and commercial specifications, identifying potential risks and critical points.
  • Prepare comprehensive documents as the foundation for bid development.
  • Collaborate with departmental leaders and management to craft strategic technical and commercial proposals.
  • Conduct detailed market research, assessing current programmes, available solutions, and supply sources.
  • Lead the development and coordination of bid schedules, ensuring timely and accurate submission.
  • Prepare and evaluate technical and financial estimates in partnership with responsible teams.
  • Support negotiations by providing technical insights and strategic input during client discussions.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with clients and partners, ensuring clarity and continuity.
  • Explore and research standardisation opportunities to optimise bid quality.
  • Develop alternative solutions to enhance competitiveness.
  • Innovate technical approaches to improve project outcomes and market positioning.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Academic background in engineering, business, or related disciplines.
  • Strong technical understanding of complex products and systems.
  • Professional level English and French; additional languages are advantageous.
  • Sound knowledge of legal and commercial contexts, including contractual and financial negotiations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, with expertise in MS Project.
  • Familiarity with enterprise resource planning systems such as SAP and Baan (preferred).
  • Demonstrated autonomy, sound judgement, and a high sense of responsibility.
  • Leadership capability, including team management and delegation skills.
  • Discretion when handling confidential or sensitive information.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience working within the defence or industrial sectors.
  • Knowledge of international trade regulations, including compliance with ITAR.
  • Prior exposure to standardisation frameworks and processes.
  • Skills in identifying and implementing innovative technical solutions.
