R&D Materials & Connectors Engineer
iO Associates are working with a long‑established engineering group that designs and manufactures high‑performance interconnection solutions used across aerospace, defence, medical devices, industrial systems and other high‑reliability sectors. Their European R&D centre is expanding due to increased demand for next‑generation component development, and they are now looking to hire an R&D Engineer specialising in materials, mechanical behaviour and connector technologies.
You’ll be joining a small, collaborative research team focused on developing new materials, sealing technologies and precision electronic components for extremely demanding operational environments.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Building expertise in advanced sealing and hermetic technologies, particularly where metal and glass materials interface
- Supporting the development of high‑performance connector components, including insulating elements, conductors and precision contacts
- Designing, modelling and validating new products using 3D design tools and simulation software
- Running material and component evaluations using laboratory test methods such as microscopy, thermal analysis and airtightness assessment
- Assisting in the creation and optimisation of manufacturing workflows, quality checks and qualification procedures
- Identifying opportunities to improve product reliability, reduce production costs and broaden technical capabilities
- Preparing technical documentation and delivering presentations for internal teams or external partners
- Ensuring all activity complies with environmental, health and safety standards
Profile & Experience
- Education:Master’s degree (or equivalent five‑year engineering qualification) in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
- Confident using CAD/design tools and digital simulation
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office for reporting and data analysis
- Able to communicate in English at an upper‑intermediate level (B2+) for technical discussions and documentation
- Quick to learn new concepts
- Analytical, practical and motivated to contribute to innovation
- Open to recent graduates or candidates with early career experience – full training is provided
