Job title: Safety Engineer

Salary: up-to £80,000 DOE

Location: Bristol / Hybrid (office, client sites & WFH)

A specialist consultancy in high-hazard industries is hiring a Safety Engineer to support continued growth across safety-critical programmes in Civil Nuclear, Defence Facilities and Energy Storage.

The role

You’ll lead and deliver a range of projects, from early scoping through to detailed design and commissioning, ensuring safety-critical requirements are met to the right standard, safely and efficiently.

This role suits someone comfortable operating at lead consultant level, managing technical delivery and client interfaces.

Role responsibilities:

• Lead projects end-to-end (concept ? commissioning), managing delivery, timelines and budgets
• Specify, design and assess control, instrumentation and safety systems in safety-critical environments
• Apply safety assessment and hazard analysis techniques including HAZOP, LOPA, SIL determination, FMEA, FTA
• Produce / review / verify / approve technical documentation (reports, specifications, design documentation)
• Own client-facing delivery: define requirements, agree scope, manage risks, provide progress reporting
• Support innovation work – taking new systems/tech from concept through to acceptance

The ideal candidate:

• Strong practical knowledge of process control systems and EC&I deliverables (P&IDs, SLDs, BCDs, schematics)
• Experience delivering safety-critical work to industry standards (EC 61508 / IEC 61511 / ISO 13849 / DO-178 / DO-254 etc)
• Experience working to ISO 9001 quality standards
• Strong written communication + confident client engagement and report writing
• SC cleared or clearable
• Nuclear industry experience desirable
