SC Cleared Software & Systems Engineer

I’m currently recruiting for an SC Cleared Software & Systems Engineer to join an onsite development support team working within a specialist IT function supporting critical law-enforcement applications and systems.

This is a genuinely varied engineering role. You’ll be supporting a mixture of bespoke and legacy applications, working across development, infrastructure, databases, containers and application support. It’s ideal for someone who enjoys getting stuck into technical problems and isn’t restricted to a single discipline.

Rate: Up to £650 / day Inside IR35
Location: London – 5 days per week on-site
Clearance: Active SC Clearance (non-negotiable)
Contract Length: 6-12 months

What you’ll be doing

• Supporting and developing a range of bespoke and legacy applications
• Diagnosing and resolving technical issues across applications, infrastructure and systems
• Developing and maintaining solutions using Python/Java
• Working extensively with Linux / Red Hat
• Managing and troubleshooting SQL and relational databases
• Supporting virtual infrastructure and application deployments
• Monitoring system health and investigating performance issues
• Managing incidents and supporting operationally critical applications
• Contributing across different engineering disciplines wherever required
• Working with development and technical teams to identify and implement improvements

Experience:

• Strong Python/Java development experience
• Strong Linux / Red Hat experience, particularly CLI
• Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases
• Hands-on Docker / containerisation experience
• Experience with Windows Server
• Understanding of software development principles
• Experience supporting or developing business/operationally critical applications

Desirable:

• Bash
• PowerShell
• NodeJS / TypeScript / React
• Golang
• Elastic
• Virtualisation / infrastructure experience
• Experience working with legacy applications

The environment includes a mixture of modern technologies alongside legacy and bespoke applications, meaning no two days are necessarily the same. The team is looking for someone who is naturally curious, technically versatile and enjoys troubleshooting problems that don’t always have an obvious answer.
