Senior AOCS Engineer

iO Associates are currently partnered with an innovative European space engineering organisation seeking a Senior AOCS Engineer to support the development of advanced satellite missions, offering the opportunity to work across the full spacecraft lifecycle with a focus on Attitude and Orbit Control Systems. This role blends hands-on engineering with R&D, enabling you to contribute to next-generation small satellite solutions while working closely with flight hardware and shaping future system capabilities.

The Role

  • Supporting or leading AOCS engineering activities from early design through to in-orbit operations
  • Developing control algorithms and associated flight software
  • Creating and maintaining simulation environments for system verification and performance analysis
  • Contributing to AOCS system and subsystem design, including hardware considerations
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure system-level performance targets are met
  • Supporting integration, testing, and validation activities
  • Working alongside embedded software teams for implementation of control solutions
  • Assisting with technical input for proposals and customer-facing deliverables

Your Profile

  • MSc or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline
  • Proven experience (4+ years) in AOCS, GNC, or closely related fields
  • Strong understanding of dynamics, control theory, and orbital mechanics
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: Control system and/or filter design, simulation and modelling of dynamic systems or embedded software/electronic systems development
  • Programming experience in MATLAB, C/C++, Python, or similar languages
  • Understanding of spacecraft subsystems such as propulsion and orbit control
  • Familiarity with digital systems and communication protocols (e.g. CAN, I2C, RS485, SpaceWire)
  • Awareness of relevant aerospace standards (e.g. ECSS or equivalent)
  • Ability to work across both software and hardware domains
  • Strong analytical skills with a solid mathematical foundation
  • Experience contributing to system design at either subsystem or full system level
  • Strong communication skills in English
