Senior External Loads Engineer

iO Associates is currently partnered with a leading aerospace client seeking a Senior External Loads Engineer to provide technical expertise and leadership in the definition, calculation, and validation of aircraft design loads for a clean-sheet aviation program. This is a unique opportunity to shape the structural requirements and aerodynamic performance of next-generation aircraft.

As part of a dynamic and innovative team, you will be responsible for defining the external environment the aircraft operates in, including flight maneuvers, gust conditions, and ground loads, ensuring the airframe is designed to withstand all critical operational envelopes.


Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in aerospace engineering with a specific focus on external loads, aeroelasticity, or flight dynamics.

  • Strong proficiency in Loads & Dynamics software

  • Intermediate skills (B1 level or above) in French.

  • Expertise in aerodynamic modeling, gust analysis, and the derivation of static and dynamic load cases.

  • In depth knowledge of aircraft certification processes (CS-25 / FAR 25) and regulatory requirements regarding structural loads (Subpart C).

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.

  • Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related field with a strong focus on fluid mechanics or structural dynamics.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the definition and calculation of design limit and ultimate loads for the entire airframe, including wings, fuselage, and empennage.

  • Develop and maintain Aeroelastic models to predict the interaction between aerodynamic forces and structural deformation.

  • Perform Flight and Ground load simulations covering maneuvers, turbulence/gusts (static and dynamic), and landing/taxiing conditions.

  • Collaborate with the Aerodynamics team to integrate CFD data and with the Stress team to provide critical load envelopes for structural sizing.

  • Support Flight Test campaigns by correlating theoretical load models with real world flight test instrumentation (FTI) data.

  • Ensure compliance with EASA/FAA regulatory standards, preparing formal certification reports and Mean of Compliance (MoC) documentation.

  • Mentor junior engineers and drive the development of automated tools for loads processing and envelope shuffling.

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, justifying load assumptions and supporting key program design reviews.
