iO Associates are partnered with an innovative European space technology company developing next-generation hardware for the rapidly growing space sector. With a strong focus on engineering excellence, rapid development cycles and in-house product ownership, they are looking to strengthen their team with the addition of a Senior Mechanisms Engineer.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in the design and development of advanced deployable systems and precision mechanisms for cutting-edge space applications. Working within a highly skilled, international engineering environment, you will take ownership of projects from early concept through qualification, testing and production.

The Role

As a Senior Mechanisms Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development and qualification of complex mechanical systems used in demanding aerospace environments. This is a hands-on position offering significant technical ownership and the opportunity to work across the entire product lifecycle.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing and developing deployment mechanisms, hinges, latching systems, gear trains and actuation systems.
• Leading mechanism development from concept generation through detailed design, testing and qualification.
• Performing kinematic, tolerance stack-up, friction, load path and reliability analyses.
• Supporting prototype assembly, integration and environmental testing activities.
• Developing robust, lightweight mechanism solutions capable of operating in challenging environments.
• Defining verification and validation plans at both subsystem and system level.
• Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Providing technical guidance and mentoring to more junior engineers.

Requirements

We’re keen to speak with engineers who have:

• 5+ years of experience designing and developing mechanical systems involving moving components.
• Experience delivering products through complete development lifecycles, from initial concept to released product.
• Strong expertise in areas such as deployable mechanisms, gearboxes, actuators, precision linkages or motion systems.
• Experience gained within aerospace, defence, robotics, automotive, industrial machinery or another high-performance engineering environment.
• Proficiency with CAD software such as CATIA, Siemens NX or similar.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to support design decisions with engineering calculations.
• A proactive and hands-on approach to engineering challenges.
• Experience working within highly regulated or mission-critical environments.
• The ability to communicate effectively in English.

Previous experience mentoring engineers or leading technical work packages would also be advantageous.
