Senior Backend Developer | Node.js, TypeScript & AWS

Location: UK/Remote 

Package: £75,000 base salary + 10% cash benefit, 10% pension, bonuses. 

The Opportunity

We’re working with an established, product-led technology business looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join its engineering team.

This is an opportunity for an experienced backend engineer to take ownership of key product features, contribute to technical decisions and help build and maintain scalable, reliable software. You’ll work closely with engineering colleagues, product stakeholders and designers to turn requirements into high-quality solutions that deliver genuine value to users.

The successful candidate will bring strong hands-on experience with Node.js, TypeScript and AWS, alongside a passion for clean code, sound engineering practices and continuous improvement.

The Role

As a Senior Backend Developer, you’ll play an important role throughout the software development lifecycle, from initial design and planning through to implementation, testing, deployment and ongoing optimisation.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing, developing and maintaining robust backend services and APIs.

• Taking ownership of features from initial concept through to production release and ongoing support.

• Writing clean, maintainable and well-tested code in line with established engineering standards.

• Contributing to technical discussions, solution design and architectural decisions.

• Improving automated testing, deployment pipelines and development processes.

• Monitoring, maintaining and optimising existing services to ensure reliability and performance.

• Collaborating with product managers, designers and technical leads to plan and deliver roadmap objectives.

• Supporting and mentoring other engineers, sharing knowledge and encouraging best practice.

• Participating in code reviews and helping maintain consistent standards across the engineering team.

• Working within an Agile environment, adapting to changing priorities while keeping delivery quality high.

Technical Skills & Experience

We’re looking for someone with strong backend engineering experience and a solid understanding of modern software development principles.

Essential experience:

• Strong commercial experience with Node.js, TypeScript and AWS.
  

• Experience building backend services and RESTful APIs.

• Familiarity with NestJS or a comparable Node.js framework.

• Experience developing and deploying applications using AWS.

• Understanding of software architecture, design patterns and maintainable coding practices.

• Experience with automated testing, ideally using Jest.

• Proficiency with Git, pull requests and collaborative code review workflows.

• Experience working with relational databases and SQL.

• A commitment to code quality, testing and continuous improvement.

Technologies that would be beneficial:

• AWS ECS and Lambda.

• AWS CDK and infrastructure as code.

• AWS SNS and SQS for messaging and event-driven systems.

• DynamoDB and AWS X-Ray.

• PostgreSQL, T-SQL or Presto.

You should be comfortable explaining technical concepts to different audiences, contributing ideas to improve the product and helping less experienced colleagues develop their skills.
