Senior Power Electronics Engineer
iO Associates are partnered with a company developing advanced deployable systems for space applications. They are looking for a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to lead the design and delivery of high‑density power systems, owning critical subsystems from early development through to deployment within next‑generation space platforms.
This is a senior, hands‑on role offering real technical ownership and influence over products that operate in demanding environments and support long‑term space missions.
Responsibilities
Working across the full product lifecycle, you will take responsibility for power management and energy buffering within multi‑kilowatt systems.
Key activities include:
- Leading trade‑off studies and feasibility analyses across power density, efficiency, thermal behaviour, mass, volume, cost, and reliability targets
- Defining and implementing power‑buffering strategies (including battery systems) aligned with mission‑specific load and operating profiles
- Architecting and optimising power conversion solutions for compact, high‑performance platforms
- Collaborating closely with mechanical, thermal, avionics, and software engineers to ensure effective system‑level integration
- Driving the transition of mature designs into manufacturing, including test strategy definition, DFM/DFA input, and engagement with production partners
- Supporting prototype build, laboratory validation, and qualification testing, including thermal characterisation, EMC compliance, and robustness assessment
- Contributing to customer delivery through technical documentation, acceptance testing, and ongoing lifecycle support
Experience Required
- 7+ years experience developing power electronics within space, automotive, or other high‑reliability industrial environments
- Demonstrated experience delivering products from early concept through to production
- Ability to operate autonomously with ownership of complex technical subsystems
- Proven track record of delivering reliable hardware for harsh or safety‑critical environments
- Willingness to mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across power architectures
- Professional working proficiency in English (additional languages are beneficial)
What’s On Offer
- Work on real hardware deployed in live missions
- Competitive salary and equity participation
- The opportunity to influence advanced engineering solutions in a growing, technology‑led organisation
- Modern facilities within a major European space and engineering hub
You do not need to meet every requirement to apply. If this role excites you and you meet many of the criteria, we encourage you to apply. The company values long‑term potential, curiosity, and growth.
