Senior Rail Systems Consultant

iO Associates are currently partnered with a European rail engineering organisation that is seeking an experienced Senior Consultant to support a series of ETCS, FRMCS and ATO integration programmes. This is a freelance contract role, based in Berlin or Munich, with hybrid working available. You’ll work directly with operators and engineering teams on major rolling‑stock upgrade and modernisation projects. Your focus will be on system integration, concept development, technical guidance, and ensuring retrofit approaches meet approval and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialist input on ETCS/FRMCS/ATO deployment and retrofit concepts.
• Support technical planning, solution definition, and customer discussions.
• Coordinate with stakeholders and, where required, lead small work streams.
• Contribute to documentation, feasibility assessments, and business‑case inputs.

Your Background

• Strong track record in the rail sector – engineering, operations or maintenance.
• Hands‑on experience with ETCS, FRMCS or ATO integration.
• Ability to design compliant upgrade concepts and evaluate technical options.
• Fluent German and solid English communication required.
• Relevant technical degree or equivalent experience.
