Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and realisation of automation systems tailored for delicate surgical procedures and precise biomechanical interactions.
- Develop innovative tooling for electrode placement and other intricate interventions involving living tissues.
- Integrate sophisticated mechanical, electronic, imaging, and sensing technologies into unified platforms.
- Create AI-driven positioning and alignment algorithms that leverage imaging data and real-time feedback.
- Oversee the development of micro-actuation mechanisms and precision handling systems for miniature robotic applications.
- Drive material selection, interface, and fixture design, ensuring manufacturable and reliable assemblies.
- Convert experimental needs into robust hardware and automation workflows, from concept through to prototyping and testing.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to optimise systems performance under real-world laboratory and clinical conditions.
- Lead iterative development cycles, incorporating testing, refinement, and hardening of prototypes to production-ready systems.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Over 8 years of hands-on experience in automation engineering, precision mechatronics, or robotic tooling.
- Proven track record of delivering complex physical systems, ideally within medical, industrial, or high-precision environments.
- Strong expertise in mechanical design, especially micro- or fine-pitch mechanisms.
- Extensive experience in automation solutions that incorporate imaging, sensors, electronics, and closed-loop control.
- Practical knowledge of material science relevant to precision assemblies and bio-compatible interfaces.
- Demonstrated ability to rapidly prototype and iterate designs in uncertain or experimental contexts.
- Experience with robotic process automation (RPA), mechanisms, and instrumentation engineering is highly desirable.
- Ability to work effectively in an onsite setting, with a commitment to safety and quality standards.
- Proven capability to manage projects from conceptualisation through to functional prototype.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Background in computer vision or AI-assisted alignment methodologies.
- Experience working on micro-scale actuation and miniature mechatronic systems.
- Knowledge of bioengineering materials and interfaces.
- Prior involvement in surgical tooling development or biomechanical system integration.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a creative mindset to tackle complex engineering challenges.
