iO are supporting a major UK engineering organisation operating across nuclear, defence & decommissioning programmes.

They’re looking for a Senior Safety Case Engineer to join a Business Winning / early-phase function, where you’ll help shape safety strategies, define credible delivery approaches, and influence outcomes on high-value bids before projects go live.

You would be expected to:

  • Lead / coordinate safety case input into bids and proposals
  • Define safety scope, delivery assumptions, schedules, and verification / assurance plans
  • Produce and review safety case documentation, technical reports, and supporting justification
  • Support / lead hazard identification and risk assessment activity
  • Work closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to drive a consistent, high-quality approach
  • Support engagement with customers / regulators as required during bid stages

Key skills and experience:

  • Strong background delivering safety case work in a highly regulated / safety-critical environment (ideally nuclear or defence)
  • Demonstrable experience writing / reviewing safety case documentation and technical submissions
  • Good working knowledge of ALARP and familiarity with ONR Safety Assessment Principles
  • Able to deliver structured technical analysis and communicate clear, evidence-based arguments
  • Comfortable influencing stakeholders across engineering, delivery, and commercial/bid teams
  • Degree in a relevant engineering / science discipline (or equivalent experience)

This role would suit someone who:

  • Enjoys working in the front end of projects (shaping the “how” before delivery starts)
  • Can balance technical depth with commercial and bid priorities
  • Wants a role with real influence across nationally significant programmes

If you’d like to hear more (including salary band, hybrid expectations, and which office base makes most sense), share your CV and I’ll talk you through the details.
