iO Associates are currently partnered with a fast‑growing space and telecommunications company developing advanced Non‑Terrestrial Network (NTN) solutions that combine satellite systems with 3GPP cellular technologies. As the business scales its R&D capability to support active deployment programmes, they are seeking a Senior Telecom R&D Engineer (NTN) in Luxembourg to work hands‑on across 3GPP protocol stacks, collaborating closely with satellite systems, RF, FPGA, and platform engineering teams on real‑world implementations.
Key Responsibilities
- Take an active role in building, evolving, and maintaining wireless communication software, supporting satellite‑enabled cellular services
- Contribute across the full development lifecycle, including concept definition, implementation, validation, and optimisation of telecom features
- Work at different levels of the stack to investigate system behaviour, resolve issues, and improve performance and robustness
- Translate technical standards, specifications, and internal requirements into maintainable and efficient implementations
- Develop and run verification and test activities, from component‑level testing through to integrated system validation
- Support the integration of software with wider system elements, working closely with hardware and systems‑focused engineering teams
- Analyse logs, traces, and KPIs to support debugging, tuning, and root‑cause analysis
- Contribute to engineering best practices, including source control, automated workflows, documentation, and code review
- Participate in cross‑functional technical discussions to support design decisions and long‑term system evolution
Required Experience & Skills
- Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline
- Several years of experience in telecom, wireless, or systems‑level R&D environments
- Solid understanding of cellular communication technologies, such as NB‑IoT, LTE, and/or 5G
- Experience developing, modifying, or integrating low‑level networking or protocol‑oriented software
- Strong programming capability in C/C++, with exposure to Python or similar scripting languages for tooling or automation
- Comfortable working in Linux/Unix‑based development environments
- Familiarity with modern engineering practices, including version control, structured workflows, and automated build or test pipelines
- Ability to analyse logs, traces, or performance metrics to support debugging and system optimisation
- Exposure to satellite communications, non‑terrestrial networks, or constrained / high‑latency systems is beneficial
- Awareness of mobile core networking concepts or signalling flows is advantageous
- Experience working alongside hardware, systems, or embedded engineering teams is a plus
- Background in embedded or real‑time software environments is desirable
- Clear and professional communication skills in spoken and written English
