Sub-Project Manager – Quality / QA (Naval Programmes)

We’re supporting a leading German shipyard in hiring a Quality-focused Sub-Project Manager to support delivery on a major naval programme.
This role combines quality assurance, client interaction, and project coordination, making it ideal for candidates with experience in regulated, high-spec environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and assess technical specifications, inspection documentation, and related materials
- Plan, conduct, and support acceptance tests in collaboration with:
- Clients
- Subcontractors (UANs)
- Public sector stakeholders
- Carry out quality inspections of:
- Products
- Components
- Materials
- Including inspections at subcontractor facilities
- Prepare and maintain:
- Inspection reports
- Quality documentation
- Deviation and non-conformance reports
- Act as the key interface between clients, internal departments, and project management teams
- Support the continuous improvement of quality processes and ensure compliance with applicable standards
- Ensure adherence to:
- Document management systems (DMS)
- Relevant defence/public sector regulations (e.g. Bundeswehr standards)
- Classification society requirements (e.g. DNV)
Requirements
- Technician or Master-level qualification in a relevant technical field, such as:
- Ship operations / maritime studies
- Mechanical engineering
- Electrical engineering
- Several years of experience in:
- Technical project coordination, or
- Planning roles within engineering environments
- Strong background in quality assurance and/or quality control
- Ability to interpret and work with:
- Technical drawings
- Bills of materials (BOMs)
- Engineering documentation
- Proficiency in MS Office tools
- Good knowledge of applicable standards and classification rules (e.g. DNV)
- Experience working with public sector or defence clients is highly desirable
- Fluent in German and English
- Willingness to travel (approx. 25%)
