Technical Lead – Hardware & Embedded Systems
iO Associates is partnering with a growing international technology company developing field‑deployed, sensor‑based hardware products, with data consolidated into a single mobile and web platform used by customers internationally.
They are seeking a hands‑on Tech Lead to take ownership of the hardware and embedded systems function. This is a practical technical leadership role, focused on electronics and embedded/firmware, combining deep hands‑on involvement with team guidance.

Key responsibilities
- Own end‑to‑end hardware and embedded R&D, from design through release and ongoing improvement
- Lead and contribute hands‑on to electronics and firmware development, including debugging and troubleshooting
- Act as escalation point for complex product and field issues
- Own OTA releases, testing, validation, and hardware certification/compliance
- Own prioritisation and day‑to‑day coordination across the hardware and embedded team
- Lead, mentor, and grow a multidisciplinary team of engineers
- Support hiring, onboarding, and long‑term capability development
- Act as the primary technical interface for hardware and embedded systems, working closely with software, operations, and support teams to improve reliability and field performance
Your profile
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical discipline
- Proven experience working in hardware, electronics, or embedded systems, with responsibility at senior or lead level
- Strong hands‑on capability across electronics, firmware development, and hardware product delivery
- Comfortable working directly with hardware and firmware, including debugging using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and soldering equipment
- Experience owning embedded systems development from early design through production and deployment
- Familiarity with OTA update workflows and release processes for embedded or connected products
- Experience contributing to or overseeing testing, validation, and certification for hardware systems
- Ability to define technical direction, structure development work, and drive execution effectively
- Experience supporting and developing engineers through technical guidance, review, and mentoring
- Strong problem solving skills, particularly when dealing with complex technical and product issues
- Background with IoT devices, sensor platforms or connected hardware systems
- Exposure to embedded software and environments (C, Rust, RTOS)
- Familiarity with hardware design tools (Altium, KiCad)
