Technical Lead – Space Robotics & Actuation Systems

 

iO Associates are currently partnered with an innovative European space technology company developing advanced spacecraft systems and next-generation space solutions. Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, we are looking to appoint a Systems Technical Lead to drive the development of complex actuation, robotics and Space Situational Awareness (SSA) products.

 

This is a highly influential technical leadership position, where you will act as the subject matter expert across the full product lifecycle, supporting multidisciplinary engineering teams from concept through to delivery.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical development of advanced spacecraft subsystems, including actuation systems, robotics and SSA hardware.
  • Own system-level architecture, requirements definition and technical decision-making.
  • Identify technical risks, bottlenecks and performance limitations early within programmes.
  • Work closely with mechanical, electronics, software and production teams to ensure successful product delivery.
  • Support design reviews and provide technical guidance throughout development activities.
  • Act as the technical reference point for engineering teams and key stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Strong experience developing complex mechatronic, robotic or electromechanical systems.
  • Background in industries such as space, aerospace, robotics, defence, advanced mobility or high-tech engineering.
  • Experience with products such as: robotic arms, actuators, reaction wheels, motion control systems, spacecraft mechanisms
  • Strong systems engineering mindset with the ability to understand technical challenges at both detailed and system level.
  • Experience working closely with manufacturing or production teams.
  • Previous leadership, technical lead or principal engineer experience.
  • Space industry experience is highly desirable, although candidates with transferable expertise from adjacent sectors will also be considered.
  • EU citizenship required due to project restrictions.
