Chief Information Officer (CIO)
Job Overview
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) seeks a Chief Information Officer (CIO) with active Developed Vetting (DV) clearance to serve as the primary point of contact (POC) and strategic leader for a high-priority digital and security transformation project at a secure UK MoD site.
The CIO will spearhead the integration of IT operations and cybersecurity, driving the modernisation of critical infrastructure, adoption of advanced technologies, and implementation of robust data governance. This role requires orchestrating cross-functional teams to deliver a secure, scalable, and efficient IT ecosystem that supports mission-critical defence operations.
Collaborating with MoD leadership, the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), and defence contractors to align project outcomes with strategic defence objectives, ensuring resilience against sophisticated cyber threats, compliance with stringent government standards, and seamless integration of cloud and data analytics solutions.
The CIO will also oversee change management to foster adoption of new systems and processes, while providing high-level reporting to senior stakeholders on project progress and IT performance.
Project Objectives
- Secure critical systems against advanced threats (e.g., APTs), ensuring compliance with HMG, JSP 440/604, and ISO 27001.
- Modernise IT infrastructure for scalability and security.
- Drive digital transformation with AI, automation, and cloud integration.
- Implement robust data governance for operational and intelligence insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Align IT and cybersecurity strategies with MoD objectives.
- Primary POC: Coordinate with MoD leadership, NCSC, and defence contractors.
- Cybersecurity: Oversee threat detection, incident response, and zero-trust implementation.
