Role Overview


In response to ongoing growth and strategic initiatives, our Client is seeking an experienced Programme Manager to lead complex naval vessel programmes. This pivotal role is instrumental in shaping the future of maritime defence projects, ensuring seamless execution across all phases from inception to operation. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to influence cutting-edge defence programmes and work within a global industry leader dedicated to excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, control, and realisation of multifaceted maritime defence projects, overseeing all project stages including bid preparation, design, testing, delivery, and logistical support.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams-including systems engineering, production, logistics, quality assurance, and procurement-to ensure programme objectives are met.
  • Manage internal teams and coordinate with external partners, subcontractors, and suppliers to facilitate smooth execution of projects.
  • Establish and maintain strong interface management with military clients, regulatory authorities, classification societies, and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance and transparency.
  • Develop comprehensive programme plans, track progress with KPIs, manage resources effectively, and report on programme status using tools such as Earned Value Management.
  • Oversee risk management, implement change controls, and manage contractual obligations, including deliverables, change orders, and procurement contracts.
  • Ensure adherence to all quality, safety, and security standards, complying with relevant military and industry regulations.
  • Support senior leadership with strategic bid initiatives, customer communication, and authoritative negotiations.


Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering, industrial engineering, shipbuilding, marine technology, electrical or mechanical engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale defence or maritime programmes, ideally involving surface vessels, submarines, or mission systems.
  • Knowledge of maritime standards, certification processes, and relevant regulatory frameworks (such as DNV, BV, Lloyd's Register, Bundeswehr regulations).
  • Familiarity with national and international procurement procedures, including the BAAINBw and Bundeswehr regulations.
  • Practical experience handling security-sensitive information and programmes, with relevant security clearances preferred.
  • Fluency in both German and English, with excellent communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time.


Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Additional certification in project or programme management (e.g., IPMA Level B/C, PMI PMP).
  • Experience working within security compliance frameworks, export controls, or ITAR/EU regulations.
  • Prior exposure to the defence or aerospace sectors involving complex project coordination and stakeholder management.
