Are you a CFD Engineer with a passion for innovation and high-performance engineering?

iO Associates is proud to be working with a forward-thinking engineering organisation at the cutting edge of drilling technology. As they continue to expand their specialist engineering function, we're looking for a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Engineer to join their team.

🔧 The Role

You'll join a collaborative, cross-disciplinary engineering team focused on enhancing the performance of highly specialised tools through fluid dynamics modelling and optimisation. From supporting existing product lines to helping shape the next generation of downhole technologies, this is a role that rewards creativity, rigour, and continuous learning.

🧠 Your Responsibilities

  • Build and refine 3D CFD models for current and next-gen tools

  • Validate simulations with test/field data to ensure accuracy

  • Analyse and optimise internal fluid behaviours and tool performance

  • Collaborate with mechanical design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams

  • Support test rig design and execution for model validation

  • Prepare and present findings clearly to stakeholders

  • Contribute to obsolescence reviews and product lifecycle support

  • Stay current with emerging tech relevant to complex fluid systems

  • Occasional international travel to support global projects

What We're Looking For

  • BEng or MEng in Engineering or related discipline

  • Minimum 5 years' CFD or fluid dynamics experience

  • Proficiency with Ansys Fluent, 3D CAD (ideally Creo), and MS Office

  • Strong grasp of fluid mechanics, turbomachinery, and hydraulics

  • Skilled in simulation interpretation, model validation, and analysis

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Organised, self-motivated, and able to manage priorities

Bonus Experience

  • Downhole or non-Newtonian fluid experience

  • Python (e.g., PyFluent), Matlab, or open-source CFD tools (e.g., OpenFOAM)

  • Broader simulation background: FEA, stress/dynamics, system modelling

🎁 Why Apply?

  • Competitive salary + benefits

  • 25 days holiday

  • Private medical, life assurance, and pension

  • Regular team socials

  • Flexible work arrangements

  • Supportive environment for technical and professional development
