Design Engineer - Metal Forging
Location: Redditch, UK
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum

iO Associates are looking for a Design Engineer specialising in metal forging with a UK-based engineering leader specialising in the design, forging, machining, and assembly of high-precision components for the aerospace and defence sectors. Their products support landing gear, aero engines, airframes, and actuation systems for industry-leading clients.

Key Requirements:

  • Holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering with over 2 years of design engineering experience, ideally within metal forging.
  • Proficient in CAD tools such as NX or SolidWorks, with working knowledge of FEA software for analysing material flow and stress.
  • Well-versed in forging principles, material properties, and GD&T, with strong skills in interpreting and creating 2D drawings.
  • Experienced in the manufacture of forged components, particularly for aerospace, defense, and industrial blade applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and optimization of forged components and tooling, including forging process development focusing on die design, material flow, and grain structure control.
  • Proficient in CAD (NX) and FEA tools to model components, simulate forging performance, and ensure design accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to resolve production issues, enhance die life, reduce defects, and drive continuous improvements in design efficiency and material utilization.
  • Ensure all designs comply with industry standards and customer requirements, while maintaining clear documentation and effective communication across cross-functional teams.
