We are seeking a highly skilled Infrastructure Engineer to join our secure technical operations team in Cheltenham. This is a hands-on position working across complex, mission-critical infrastructure supporting secure environments and advanced technology systems.
You will be responsible for maintaining, enhancing, and automating on-premises, virtualised, and cloud infrastructure - ensuring performance, resilience, and security across all environments.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and support secure infrastructure across physical, virtual, and cloud platforms.
Administer and optimise Windows Server and Linux systems.
Manage virtualisation environments (VMware ESXi, vCenter, vSphere, NSX, vSAN).
Configure and maintain networking and firewall technologies.
Implement and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
Automate infrastructure builds and deployments using CI/CD pipelines.
Deploy and maintain containerised services (Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift).
Support cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) for scalable, secure infrastructure solutions.
Manage storage, backup, and monitoring solutions.
Maintain strict adherence to security, compliance, and governance frameworks.
Essential Skills & Experience
Must hold active eDV clearance (applications without valid clearance cannot be considered).
Proven experience in infrastructure engineering within secure or enterprise-scale environments.
Strong background in virtualisation (VMware stack).
Expertise in Windows Server, Active Directory, and Group Policy management.
Solid experience with Linux administration (RHEL, CentOS, or Ubuntu).
Strong understanding of networking fundamentals - routing, VLANs, VPNs, and firewalls.
Hands-on experience with automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, Bash, or Python).
Experience working with AWS or Azure.
Familiarity with containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
Strong focus on security, resilience, and reliability.
Desirable Skills
Knowledge of Palo Alto, Cisco, or Fortinet networking solutions.
Experience in CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps).
Understanding of identity management, MFA, and secure authentication systems.
Certifications such as VMware VCP, AWS Solutions Architect, or Azure Administrator.
